Commotion in the Ocean: There are so many kinds of ocean animals. Can you think of some? There are fish, whales, dolphins, sharks, turtles, jellyfish and so much more. Of each of those there are different kinds as well, for example – blue tang fish and clown fish. Humpback whales and orca whales. And more! Today we will be exploring different kinds of ocean animals. Read (if you have) or listen to Commotion in the Ocean.

Google 3D Animals In Your Home
Google 3D Animals In Your Home

Google an animal and have it appear in your home! Works on iPhone and Android. Just click on the “view in 3D” button to launche the AR (Augmented Reality) experience. You’ll also see an overview of what the animal is. There is no official list of animals but these are some ocean animals that have been know to work: Alligator, Angler fish, Emperor penguin, Octopus, Shark, Turtle. (Other animals include Brown bear, Cat, Cheetah, Deer, Dog, Duck, Duck, Eagle, Giant panda, Goat, Hedgehog, Horse, Leopard, Lion, Macaw, Racoon, Shetland pony, Snake, Tiger, Wolf) Pic credit

Materials:

- Paper plate (or paper cut into a circle)

- Color paper

- Scissors

- Glue

Play the game "Fish, Fish, Shark" (aka duck, duck, goose)


Fishy Pokey – aka the Hokey Pokey Put your left fin in, take your left fin out You do the fishy pokey and you turn yourself around that's what it’s all about Put your right gill in, take your right gill out (etc.)


Play Go fish (if you don’t have the game you can play with regular playing cards.

Find flat rocks and paint them as any animals of your choosing.

Ocean Scene

Create an ocean scene – this is time to let your kids to create whatever they want below are suggestions


a. Materials

- Blue paper

- Cut of fish

- For bubbles – glue on Cheerios, press bubble wrap in paint

- Seaweed- pipe cleaners or tissue paper

- Glue

- Sand


b. You could also create an ocean scene using a blue sheet, ocean animals around the house, and seashells (if you have). Then have the kids move the fish around!

Play 'Fish in the ocean': Have someone be the shark and everyone else fish. The fish have to try and cross the ocean (a set space that you specify) and not get eaten (tagged) by the shark. If they get caught, then they join the shark to try to catch more fish. Keep playing until everyone is a shark

Snack – fish crackers and grapes

Lunch – fish sticks, octopus veg and dip (cut off the top of a pepper and place it upside down into a bowl of chummus or any other dip) then cut up another pepper into slices and place them around as the legs of the octopus)

Snack – dolphins (bananas) and gold (chocolate coins)

Dinner – shell pasta and tomato sauce
